31 Projects: Kitchen, Day 11

Welcome to Day 19 of 31 Projects: House to Home 2013!

Today almost feels like a waste, but not completely. We fought with the lighting again today. This morning we kept making the track lighting work, but it just wasn't. We decided to run our errands and brainstorm in the car. The car is where we normally hash things out and it worked for us again.

We decided to re-install the original fluorescent lights, which are horrid looking. We just decided to tweak them. AJ had the idea to build a frame for around them and then put a cover over the bulbs so they wouldn't be visible. So, we bought the light cover and when we got home AJ started building the frames.  He also moved the lights to mounting on the ceiling and was able to wire them all together so that they are on one switch now instead of multi-switches around the kitchen.

While AJ was installing the final wall cabinet I was staining the frames he made for the lights. We didn't get the frames up tonight because they needed to dry, but tomorrow!

The last thing I got done today was the first coat of concrete on the sink counter. We had been holding out doing the sink because it meant being without a sink for a couple of days. I am hoping that doing the first coat tonight means it will be ready to sand in the morning and by dinner tomorrow it will be all done.

The sink counter and the lights being on the same switch are my hopeful points that we will be all done (or at least close enough to call it that), and get my house back in order. I am ready to have this pretty new kitchen feel like a kitchen and not a work zone.
